Tis the season (for chocolate and lights)...

Eldon takes me out quite a bit, so today I decided to take him out for once. I told him I had a surprise for him after work, and didn't tell him where I was taking him, just that he should be prepared not to go home directly after work. I met him downtown and we began walking toward our first stop.

He didn't guess until we were on the street of our destination. I took him to the Melting Pot. He was excited, as he'd never been. I went there a few months ago with Corey and discovered that their desserts were to die for. This was something that I NEEDED to share with Eldon.

We sat in the bar area, and ordered a drink. I had their Strawberry Seduction, which was very very yummy, served in a martini glass with sugar around the rim and small lemon circle floating in it. Eldon had to get the Mojito, because after seeing that Family Guy episode, he couldn't stop saying it after he read it. It was a minty drink, which he decided would be a great thing to have sitting on a beach in the sun, which unfortunately we weren't doing.

We had their Oktoberfest fondue appetiser, which was a spicy cheddar cheese, and came with bread, sausage, ham, brautwurst, carrots, celery and apples for dipping. It was good, except that they put a little too much mustard seasoning in the cheese. We had to stop eating it before too long though, because I wanted to make sure we had room for the dessert.

It was definately worth it. We had the Bailey's swirl. Milk chocolate swirled with a shot of Bailey's, and they gave us a plate of strawberries, banannas, pineapple, cheesecake, pound cake, brownies, graham cracker covered marshmallows, and oreo covered marshallows to dip into the chocolatey goodness.

A happy Eldon anticipating his chocolate strawberry.

When we finished up there, I had yet another surprise for him. We walked back to the car and drove up to Portland International Raceway for their Winter Wonderland christmas light display. Among the sites they had a very impressive flag done on the bleachers, the 12 days of Christmas, (to which Eldon and I joked that you'd really have to like birds to appreciate all the gifts given, but he wouldn't mind having those 8 maids or 9 dancing ladies!) Elves playing all sorts of sports, and even some dinosaurs (not sure how they fit in to the Christmas theme).

Anyone else think this looks like a Lite Brite?
