My new job..
Has me working a lot, obviously.
But there are some really cool things I've been doing. I've already learned a lot in the almost two weeks I've been there. I am learning to identify all sorts of different microscopic things, bacteria, mites, etc..
I'm learning how to restrain animals for blood draws, and I think I'm doing a pretty good job. There's a whole lot to remember! It's a 9 doctor practice, so there's always something interesting going on, and always stuff to do.
This is a 9 week old kitten, named Bonnie, that had a diaphramatic hernia. Basically, her diaphragm was nearly non existant, and so her intestines were up under her ribcage! Her heart was pushed over to the left side of her body. They didn't think she was going to make it. I took this picture the day AFTER her surgery. Not only did she live, but it was nearly imp0ssible to take this picture cuz she was moving around so quickly. How awesome is that?
I got to give medication to a uromastyx lizard. The hardest part was trying to pry his little mouth open. He didn't want that to happen, but see how colorful he is? I took this a few hours after he got the meds. When he came in, he was very pale and dehydrated. :)
My job does have its tragedies though. I've witnessed a few euthanasias of some really sick dogs, cats, hamsters, etc.
This momma kitten came in, and was very very ill. She'd had a kitten two days earlier, and then delivered a dead one the next day. She was completely dehydrated, anemic and septic due to having the dead kitten inside her, and she was covered in fleas, which were taking a toll on the rest of her blood supply. They did all that they could, but she died after surgery. :( Her two day old kitten was ok though. I bottle fed it every two hours until the family came to get her. Her head was barely bigger than my thumb!
My clinic also boards dogs, and this little girl has been wreaking havoc for several days. She howls ALL day long. You can hear her through the entire clinic. They walk her 4 times a day, but she's a husky.. she needs more excersize than the clinic can give her. She dumps her food all over her kennel and plays in it. She eats any blanket you put in her kennel, and today she even escaped from her kennel and was trying to play with the other caged dogs in the dog ward when I discovered her. We all can't wait till she goes home!
One very cool thing I managed to do in the short time I had off between jobs, was that I finally got to catch up with Heather! She found me because of this blog! I purposely posted her first and last name on my blog a couple times hoping she would google herself and find me. Well she did! After 10 years I finally got to see her. It was really great to catch up with her, even if it was only for a short time. Her and her husband are tea merchants and so we chatted up over some tea of course!

Ah, the unhappy Husky in a kennel. I know that sound well.
And no more sad cat stories. :(
Congrats on your new job Brandy!! I'm really glad it all worked out for you. Sorry Wesley ate your new bicini (spell?) Yes, when our kids don't get enough of our time, they find a way to remind us. We saw the pics of Keith at Bill Johnson's. Glad everyone had such a great time, and the food was awesome. Miss ya. I'd say stay out of trouble, but as busy as you are I know you won't have the time to do anything but. HOw's the summer classes going? Talk at you later. Dawn
Oooooooh! She's that tea person you were telling me about. You need to go to tea with her AGAIN with me in tow. I actually want to talk to her about how she broke into that area of business.
