I can't get no sleep....

This week has been tough. I'm still recovering from the nasty-knock-your-ass-to-the ground, feel and look like you've been playing chicken with a train cold. I actually coughed so hard it made me puke! I've already surpassed the two week mark and now all I have left is the cough. However, I did manage to give it to most of my friends, so everyone hates me now. :(

Sorry guys, I didn't realize I could still be contageous over a week after I had it! I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The bonus to coughing that hard and for that long, is that I feel like I did 1000 crunches a day, and my abs look pretty good! Ha!

The school and work thing is really a struggle though. I think I'm still managing to do well in my classes, despite the fact that I've probably only had about 12 hours of sleep the whole week. After work, doing homework till 2am and being in class at 9. ouch.

Monday night was the worst I think. It was really quiet at work until about 8:30, and then the shit hit the fan. 2 dogs hit by car, a cat that clotheslined its mouth and split both sides open, a dog that got two of it's toenails ripped off and a dog bleeding out from her vagina... one right after another.
Warning.. gory pic inc! This was one of the hit by car dogs.

She actually wasn't that bad off, other than the fact that she had a lot of road rash and lascerations, but the worst of her injuries was her hip was out. We ended up having to send her to Dove, since we coudn't possibly do the surgery on her that late with all the other emergencies and only one doctor on.

In happier news: At school, we take dogs from the shelters and use them for learning, ie: taking X-rays etc. Well being that these are shelter dogs we don't really know their temperment, and when we're done with them at the end of the school year, we find them homes. So this year they started a program to train the dogs to have some manners so that they are more adoptable at the end of the year. Well that's right up my alley! I couldn't NOT volunteer to be part of that program!

So the people in the program are assigned a specific dog. I asked for the most challenging dog, and everyone said "Captain Jack".
This is Jack and I.

Needless to say, he's not a challenge at all. He's wonderful! I'm sorta bummed, because I wanted a challenge, but it's cool that he's a chill dog. I'll have fun working with him anyway.

To give myself a bit of a challenge, I pulled out one of the other dogs who really does need some work. This is Toby. Toby is young and he's very excitable, so he doesn't listen very well. However he's very smart if you have food!

Wednesday, I decided to give myself a break from studying and go meet my new friend Josh. The original plan was to take Wesley and go to the Berlin Inn. But around the time we planned on going, it started raining. Sitting outside in the rain with wet dog wouldn't really be too much fun... but the fondue was still tempting, so we went to the Melting Pot instead.

We discovered that Josh and I have quite a bit in common, including a highly under-developed sense of direction. We got lost. This pic comes from a joke about how we were never going to find where we were going and were going to be forced to live as bums in one of the cubby holes in downtown Portland.

We finally got to the Melting Pot and had some really yummy raspberry martini things and of course, cheese and chocolate. With the exception of the near melt-down I had about losing my phone (which apparently got picked up and turned in at the front) we had a really good time. The bartender was hillarious, and upon eaves-dropping on our conversation pulled and orange out from under the counter and gave it to us. (The orange is an inside joke folks!)
We found our way back to the parking structure we parked at, and it was completely closed! We ended up having to go into this creepy hallway part of the building to get in, but there was no explanation of where to go, and all the doors were locked. It was scary enough on it's own, echoes and odd lighting, without Josh making the ch-ch-ch-ch ha-ha-ha, stereotypical horror movie sounds. We did eventually find our way out, had to take the elevator but we found my car and even that felt ominous. Lone car in the creepy parking garage.

It was a very fun night though and I'm certain I've made a new friend to keep!
