Special Delivery

After being up till 6 am and then having to be at work at 10 am, my ass was really dragging. However, I did manage to make it to work on time, and I'm so glad I did! I got to help deliver puppies! That's one of the main reasons I wanted to be in this field. The babies. I've never actually seen a live birth, of any kind, and I desperately wanted to.

This momma was having difficulty with her delivery. She had had two very large puppies at home, and they were stillborn, so the family brought her in. We did radiographs and found that she had at least two more puppies inside her, but she was too tired to put forth the effort to get them out.

We had to induce her with some oxytocin to make her muscles contract enough to push the puppies out. I caught this picture right as the puppy came out! The family didn't mind me taking pictures, as I promised to send them to them.

This made my whole day worth it!


After work, I had promised to stop by and wish Allison a happy birthday, as she was celebrating it at Kennedy School. I made a very brief appearance, as I was so exhausted.



Afterward, I just went home and crashed in preparation for a very busy week.
